Strong Local Economies
Not Big Government Handouts
As a Blue Dog Democrat and a believer in local control and limited government, I know that the best solutions don’t come from Washington or Austin, they come from Texans taking care of Texans. That’s why I’m fighting for economic fairness that keeps tax dollars where they belong, right here at home.
We can start by expanding property tax deductions for hardworking families who invest in their communities. If you're maintaining your home, paying for daycare, donating food to neighbors in need, working as a first responder or teacher, taking gun safety classes, or purchasing a secure gun safe, you should be rewarded for making your community stronger, not taxed into the ground.
Small businesses are the backbone of rural Texas, and it’s time the tax code reflected that. I’ll lower the maximum combined tax rate on small businesses from 8.25% to 6.25%, helping family-owned shops and startups keep more of what they earn. At the same time, it’s fair to ask large national corporations to pay their share, by slightly raising standard corporate rates, from 0.375% to 1.25% for wholesalers and retailers, and from 0.75% to 1.5% for all other big businesses. That levels the playing field for Main Street, not Wall Street.
I’ll also fight to repeal anti-worker "Right to Work" laws that weaken wages and hurt local economies. Giving working people the freedom to negotiate fair pay and safe conditions means more money spent locally, and stronger families.
And when it comes to powering our future, I support investing in modern nuclear energy to fix our broken grid. We need reliable, clean, and affordable power, not rolling blackouts and sky-high electric bills. Energy independence starts with local infrastructure, not federal bailouts
